What do I need to run ResidualVM?

First of all you need to own one of the games ResidualVM runs. You also need a build of ResidualVM for the operating system you are using, which can be found in our Downloads page. If there isn't a precompiled build for your platform you will need to build one yourself.

To run a game copy the data files of the game to your hard drive, then open ResidualVM

Add game screen 1.jpg

select 'Add Game' and find the directory with the data files

Add game screen 2.jpg

click on 'Choose' and then on 'OK'

Add game screen 3.jpg

'Start' and enjoy!

Linux Requirements

ResidualVM requires a couple system components to be installed in order to run correctly, if you are using a precompiled binary you need to have installed the following packages:

  • SDL
  • libGL
  • libGLU

ResidualVM Configuration File

By default, the configuration file is saved in, and loaded from:

  • Windows Vista:
    • \Users\username\AppData\Roaming\ResidualVM\residualvm.ini
  • Windows 2000/XP:
    • \Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\ResidualVM\residualvm.ini
  • Windows NT4:
    • <windir>\Profiles\username\Application Data\ResidualVM\residualvm.ini
